This rammed earth pond in the Cambium Ecovillage collects up to 280m³ of roof rainwater. The inlet and outlet are designed as wetland biotopes that both purify and infiltrate the water. The pond keeps its water level constant. When it rains, it absorbs up to 100m³ of additional water, preventing flooding. The held water slowly runs into the surrounding wetland biotope where it infiltrates into the groundwater. In summer, this creates a refreshing place to splash around. At the same time, the evaporative moisture reduces damage from late frosts to surrounding fruit trees.
