By implementing this project Cambium Ecovillage became a regional pioneer in Agroforestry. About 1.3 acres of grassland were transformed into a retention landscape planted with fruit trees using a Keyline design and retention basin. The Keyline design relieves the waterlogged soils and provides plant-available water during dry periods. More than 150 fruit and nut tree rarities of diverse origin will improve groundwater production in the future. Grazing is carried out according to the principles of holistic pasture management, resulting in a diverse flora and fauna. The connected retention basins reduce the surface runoff of water to one or two continuous heavy rain events per year.
